When a patient has a dislocated or broken limb, stabilization and immobilization are key for preventing further injury to the limb and ensuring proper healing. Immobilization is especially critical for pediatric patients whose bones are still growing. Emergency medical services (EMS) staff can use the old-fashioned method of securing the limb to a rigid splint, but innovation has provided them with a new product for better patient care — the Hartwell EVAC-U-SPLINT.The EVAC-U-SPLINT Extremity Splint Set provides a solution for almost every conceivable first aid or splinting situation that emergency medical technicians (EMT) may encounter. From dislocated shoulders to angulated wrist fractures, simply form it around the injured area, evacuate the air using the quick connect MaxiValve — and you’re done! Vacuum technology reduces the potential for nerve, tissue, and vessel damage. These splints can stabilize leg fractures, dislocated shoulders, knee injuries, wrist fractures, infant and pediatric immobilization, hip stabilization, padding under the knees, temporary cervical support, and much, much more.
The durable fabric construction is easy to clean for proper infection control and will stand up to years of field use. The vale allows for a full evacuation of air in seconds. Its non-magnetic construction makes the entire EVAC-U-SPLINT fully x-ray compatible. Side-release buckles allow responders to place or remove the EVAC-U-SPLINT quickly without risking further harm to the patient.
The set comes with three different EVAC-U-SPLINT models appropriate for most patient sizes, a carry case, and a manual pump.
You can be transporting your patient to the hospital while other rescuers are still bending, padding, and struggling to apply traditional fixation splints. The number of uses for the Hartwell Medical EVAC-U-SPLINT is limited only by the creativity of the rescuer.
Additional accessories available for the Hartwell EVAC-U-SPLINT are the aluminum vacuum pump with foot stirrup (SKU# 09-54254) and the compact pump (SKU# 09-54251). Other healthcare supplies for patient transport are available at Penn Care, such as vacuum mattresses and backboards.
