Since 1985, Indianapolis-based Pulmodyne, Inc. has been on the cutting edge of high-quality airway management tools for emergency medicine, anesthesia, and home care. Let’s take a look at some of the Pulmodyne airway management medical devices they offer.
Control-Cric
The Control-Cric is an equipment kit packaged together to make a cricothyrotomy procedure as simple as possible for emergency medical service (EMS) staff. In the case of a difficult airway situation where intubation is not possible, a healthcare provider may have to perform this procedure in a prehospital setting to establish an airway for a patient. The kit contains:
- The Cric-Knife — a dual-sided 10mm blade with a tracheal hook so that the healthcare provider can keep control of the patient’s airway instead of reaching for additional tools.
- The Cric-Key — a 5.5mm cuffed tube with an attached introducer to allow the provider to achieve proper placement.
- A silicone neck strap that slides over the tube and maintains its position.
The Control-Cric also includes a BVM wedge and extension tubing.
GO-PAP
The GO-PAP is an emergency disposable CPAP device that operates utilizing the barbed valve outlet as its oxygen source. Its PEEP valve is independent of flow so that the healthcare provider does not have to constantly adjust flow to maintain proper PEEP levels. The GO-PAP also has integrated nebulization features that can be used while still maintaining a consistent oxygen flow to the patient.
O2-MAX BiTrac ED Mask
The O2-MAX airway device is designed to provide continuous positive airway pressure for patients experiencing severe respiratory distress. This fully disposable CPAP system is capable of delivering 140 LPM with 30% FiO2. The connected Trio adapter adjusts the FiO2 from 30 to 60 to 90%, depending on patient needs. PEEP options include 3-set and 5-set. The system not only includes the adjustable face mask, but also comes with expandable tubing and a filter with 99.9998% efficiency against both bacteria and viruses.
Naso-Flo Nasopharyngeal Airway
The Naso-Flo nasopharyngeal airway device allows medical staff to deliver oxygen directly to the patient’s upper pharynx. Its soft silicone construction reduces the chances of trauma or injury to the patient during insertion with the aid of a laryngoscope to visualize the patient’s airway. Built-in humidification ports at the Naso-Flo’s distal tip allow for the transfer of moisture and heat. Options for the Naso-Flo include a respiratory indicator and an integrated capnography line.
The Importance of Airway Management
Airway emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. They can happen as a result of trauma, an allergic reaction, or some other type of medical emergency. The victim can be an adult, elderly, or pediatric.
If an airway emergency occurs in a hospital setting, there is a code called “DART”, which stands for Difficult Airway Response Team. These responders are specifically trained to deal with particularly difficult airway situations outside of an operating room setting, including resuscitation, if necessary.
