Our electronic patient care reporting (EPCR) software, emsCharts, has lots of bells and whistles. That said, we thought it would be beneficial start highlighting specific features of emsCharts in-depth. This month, we want to cover the geo-coding functionality for emsCharts.
The geo-coding functionality in emsCharts works by automatically assigning a latitude and longitude coordinate to addresses in the electronic patient care record. This includes referring, receiving, and patient addresses. This information can then be used to:
Auto-calculate mileage (air or ground) between two points
- emsCharts references MapQuest to determine the shortest driving route or straight-line distances between locations (for air)
- This can be used when reporting mileage for such things as MediCare
Setup bio-surveillance alerts to notify you when a threshold of calls is reached determined on location and frequency
- An example of this would be a Flu 10 10 10 alert where you might receive 10 flu-like symptom calls in a 10 mile radius within 10 hours.
Plot density mapping
- Using this you can display all of your EMS incidents on a map. Specific calls can be filtered based on call, data, type, location, etc.
Give detailed reports such as closest trauma center, distance between base and call, time between base and call, and more
