Benefits of Hypodermic Needles from Becton Dickinson
These Becton Dickinson needles are meant for subcutaneous (Sub-Q) use. Subcutaneous injections are delivered into the deepest layer of the skin, under both the dermis and epidermis, and effective for drug deliveries such as insulin and morphine. Since this tissue has few blood vessels, it is different from an intramuscular injection, which goes directly into the muscle tissue. (Most vaccines and immunizations must be administered intramuscularly.)
Each needle’s polypropylene hub can fit any luer slip, eccentric tip or Luer lock tip style of syringe. Hubs serve as the connector between the body of the syringe and the needle itself.
Luer slip connections are held together only with friction, while Luer lock connections twist into place. Eccentric tips are offset syringe tips that enable the syringe to be held closer to the skin. The hubs are color coded with easy to spot colors, making it simple to differentiate between needle gauges.
Gauges available range from 18 gauge up to 26 gauge, and in lengths ranging from ⅝ inch to one inch. The needles are constructed of stainless steel, and the needle tips come in regular bevel, short bevel, and intradermal bevel styles. They are packaged in boxes containing 100 needles, or in a case of 20 boxes. Becton Dickinson needles are constructed entirely of latex-free materials.
Each needle is packaged sterile and is meant for single use only. Hypodermic needles should be disposed of properly and never sterilized or reused. Always dispose of used hypodermic needles in accordance with your facility or location’s health protocols.
*Note that these needles do not include syringes. If you also require syringes, we offer a number of different types, such as disposable syringes with Luer Lock tips. Becton Dickinson also offers disposable hypodermic needles with their PrecisionGlide technology, which feature thinner walls to allow for an increased flow rate with a smaller gauge needle. Becton Dickinson also offers needles with SafetyGlide technology that make intravenous injection easier for the healthcare provider and safer for the patient.
