Salem Sump™ Tube
Our Salem Sump™ nasogastric tubes enjoy world-wide name brand recognition.
The dual lumen tube allows for safer continuous and intermittent gastric suctioning. The large lumen allows for easy suction of gastric contents, decompression, irrigation and medication delivery. The smaller vent lumen allows for atmospheric air to be drawn into the tube and equalizes the vacuum pressure in the stomach once the contents have been emptied. This prevents the suction eyelets from adhering to and damaging the stomach lining.
The silicone Salem Sump™ tube provides the patient with optimal comfort and protection. The silicone tubing can dwell up to 30 days and remains flexible for optimal patient comfort during nasogastric tube use and removal.

Product Details
Salem Sump™ is a nasogastric tube used for nasogastric intubation. NG feeding tube placement depends on the type of use. Nasogastric feeding is through the nasal cavity and travels down the esophageal tract into the stomach. They are typically used to administer fluids, medications and liquid food. They are thin and flexible to prevent airway obstruction. NG tubes are often utilized in the intensive care unit for the continuous feeding and nutritional support of patients with life-threatening medical conditions. This prevents the suction eyelets from adhering to and damaging the stomach lining, preventing ulcers.
The silicone Salem Sump™ tube provides the patient with optimal comfort and protection. The silicone tubing can remain in place up to 30 days and stays flexible for optimal patient comfort during nasogastric tube use and removal.
Uses for NG intubation
• Elimination of gastric contents
• Reduction of gastric volume
• Withdrawal of gastric secretions for testing purposes
• Administration of medication or nutrition
A nasogastric feeding tube is a flexible, soft-plastic tube used to provide enteral feeding, remove stomach contents for diagnostic testing, or to decompress the stomach. Enteral nutrition is a way to deliver nutrition to a patient directly to their stomach or small intestine.
Nasogastric intubation (NG) is typically performed at a hospital by a healthcare professional. First, the healthcare provider will place an endoscope (a thin, flexible instrument with a light and camera on one end) into the patient’s nostril. The doctor or nurse will then advance the scope until they can see it enter the esophagus and stomach. At this point, they will insert a lubricated nasogastric tube alongside the scope. Once in place, the scope is removed, leaving only the nasogastric tube in place.
While there are instances when the doctor may put the patient to sleep while placing the tube, most people are awake during the procedure. First, the nasal area might be numbed with either lidocaine or an anesthetic spray. After nasogastric tube insertion, the end of the tube must be secured so that it does not slip out of place. It also must be checked periodically to ensure it remains in proper position within the upper gastrointestinal tract. If the feeding tube position changes and coils in the pharynx, a healthcare professional must adjust the NG tube for the patient’s safety.
