There are many different reasons why first responders have to transport patients. Patient transport ranges from run-of-the-mill transporting a patient between hospitals to mass casualty events with multiple patients going to the hospital following triage. Patient immobilization is crucial to their safety. Movement can worsen the injury if a neck or spine injury is present, potentially causing permanent damage. During any ride in an ambulance, the patient should be secured to ensure safety. A variety of Reeves stretchers are available to meet all these needs.
Reeves Flexible Stretcher, Style
The Reeves Style Flexible Stretcher is an easy and flexible alternative to using a backboard. Its design is ergonomic, strong and durable. It’s made of 22-ounce heavy-weight vinyl with hardwood oak slats positioned between two layers of material to provide additional strength. Reeves Flexible Stretcher, 101
The Reeves 101 Flexible Stretcher is an easily conveyable patient transport device designed to easily maneuver around corners and staircases. Per independent laboratory testing, the Reeves 101 can carry over 700 pounds while only weighing 18 ounces. It’s easy to clean, thanks to its vinyl-coated polyester material. Like other stretchers by HDT Expeditionary Systems, Inc. the 101 is highly resistant to acids, alkali and impenetrable by liquids. It’s constructed of five removable hardwood slats between two layers of fabric, providing strength and rigidity.
Carrying is made easy by the six ergonomically-placed handles made of polypropylene webbing with foam inserts. For maximum immobilization, three two-inch security straps are available to be placed in strategic locations. Maximum visibility is provided thanks to reflexite reflectors on both sides of the cot.

Reeves Sleeve
The Reeves Sleeve from HDT Expeditionary Systems, Inc. has been used to safely immobilize and transport patients since the early 1960s. The sleeve is designed to properly immobilize patients with spinal and neck injuries and lift them out of tight spaces. It can convert from a full-size backboard into an immobilization device for both vertical and horizontal lifting. It’s convenient to use in a confined space because it fits directly over the backboard.
First responders, EMS workers and patients are protected from biohazards thanks to the vinyl laminated nylon resistant to fungi, acids, alkalis, and biological liquids.

Reeves Sleeve II
The Reeves Sleeve II is an upgraded, more durable version of the original Reeves Sleeve. While the original has six handles, this modified version has ten padded carry handles and a reinforced bottom for added strength. With this additional support, the Reeves Sleeve II can still maneuver through tight places. It’s even commonly used on board a ship.
This advanced sleeve is designed for rapid immobilization of spinal neck injuries while the patient is in a tight space. It has been tested to hold over 1,000 pounds, although it weighs just 18 ounces. As with other Reeves products, it aids in infection control because its vinyl-coated polyester construction makes it easy to clean with soap and water.
The Reeves Sleeve II has multiple potential lift points with one vertical option and four horizontal lift points. Its helicopter hoist capability allows it to hoist patients at any angle. The updated Reeves Sleeve also includes a removable velcro head-securing block, adjustable head- and chin-securing straps, a chest- and arm-securing flap, a leg-securing flap and a spine board compartment. An additional “fail-safe” strap is also added for extra security.

Reeves 103 Heavy-Duty Stretcher
Reeves Heavy-Duty Stretcher is wider and sturdier than the standard 101. Measuring ten inches wider, it’s an easily conveyable patient transport device for larger patients. It was tested to carry over 1,000 pounds (per independent laboratory testing). This heavy-duty stretcher has a total of ten handles for easier transport between multiple medical personnel.
Infection control is achievable with the 103 Heavy-Duty Reeves EMS Stretcher by HDT Expeditionary Systems, Inc. It is constructed of vinyl-coated polyester that is highly resistant to acids and alkalis while preventing penetration by liquids. It’s easily washed and disinfected with soap and water to prevent biohazards from spreading from patient to patient.
The Reeves 103 is heavy-duty while remaining lightweight (at only 18 ounces). It’s made of seven removable hardwood slats connected with two layers of fabric. Three two-inch polypropylene web patient security straps with plastic buckles provide maximum immobilization (metal buckles also available).

Reeves Replacement Parts
First responders and EMS workers never know what they will encounter in the field. They need accessible, up-to-date and ready-to-use equipment. As with any reusable equipment, new products are sure to lose parts or wear down after years of service. Reeves stretchers have easily replaceable parts to keep your equipment looking new for as long as possible.
Buckle
When your buckles begin to show signs of wear and tear, don’t fear. You can easily buy replacement male buckles to ensure your patients stay immobilized, secure and, more importantly, safe.
Wooden Slat
Reeves stretchers are often constructed with hardwood slats to provide their heavy weight capacities. Purchase replacement wooden slats for when the stretchers begin to wear out.
Pediatric Immobilization
Proper immobilization is just as important as with adults. However, most adult-sized immobilization devices are too big to properly and safely secure those smaller patients. However, Ferno pediatric immobilization devices easily secure onto other cots and backboards. Do not try and immobilize a small child on a stretcher made to secure an adult; serious injury could result.
