A big responsibility tasked to the Health Department is emergency preparedness. Local health departments work to develop plans to assist their community in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. The ability to mass dispense medications and vaccinations is a critical point of preparedness, especially in an instance such as a pandemic flu outbreak.
Recently, Grayson Root of Penn Care, delivered a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Trailer to the Trumbull County Board of Health. Utilizing a federal grant marked for pandemic flu protection, Trumbull County will now be able to provide onsite inoculations in case of such an outbreak. The trailer will also hold equipment for public health screenings. It is a great example of US grant money being spent locally for the help and welfare of the general public.

The Trumbull County Board of Health MCI trailer was customized by Penn Care to meet the organization’s specific needs and requirements. It is a 8′ x 16′ Carmate trailer. It was equipped with shelving and a 48″ PODBOX. A PODBOX is a portable emergency medical station which allows you to dispense medications, vaccinate patients, assemble supplies, and more from one strategic command unit. They are designed for use as a mass dispensing station, vaccination station, dispensing work station, nurses work station, triage cart, or mobile incident command station – making it an extremely versatile unit for the Trumbull County Board of Health.
The MCI trailer will be stored at the Trumbull County Board of Health. If/when needed, the trailer can easily be transported to anywhere in the county for deployment. This will allow the Board to quickly respond in an emergency situation.
We had a great time working with the Trumbull County Board of Health, especially Dan Dean, to design and build their trailer. Congratulations on your new MCI Trailer Trumbull County!
