As part of our diverse and extensive disaster response division, we offer mobile incident response shelters, mobile decontamination shelters, and shelter accessories. More importantly, we offer complete hospital surge systems. These medical station systems are very robust and contain all of the equipment and supplies needed to effectively house and treat patients in a mass casualty incident or hospital surge situation. The largest and most comprehensive of these systems is our 50 Patient Hospital Surge Ward System.
Surge hospitals have been defined as facilities designed to supplement existing hospitals in the case of an emergency. They build their plans based on the needs of the community as well as the resources available to the organization. Surge capacity is critical to a health care system in that it must expand quickly beyond normal services to meet an increased demand for medical care in the event of a crisis. At Penn Care, we are constantly looking for new products and solutions to make this job easier. The creation of our 50 Patient Hospital Surge Ward System is just one way we’ve done this.
Over the years, we’ve had a lot of experience in designing and putting together portable medical stations to be used for disaster response. Our 50 patient shelter system can accommodate medical and special needs patients; it can also handle negative and positive pressure isolation patients. With rapid deployment, this system can be setup anywhere for use as hospital overflow or service as an alternative care site. It can be used as a medical dispensary site, as well as a first aid station, and is designed to serve patients that need oxygen on a daily basis. If a hospital goes down in the event of a tornado, hurricane, or a disaster, this system can be used until a permanent facility can be built.
Our Base 50 Patient Hospital Surge Ward System includes the following: 2 – 5 Patient Hospital Surge Shelters, 4 – 10 Patient Hospital Surge Shelters, 4 – Nursing Station Hospital Surge Shelters, 1 – Admittance Hospital Surge Shelter, 2 – 3.5 ton HVAC, 4 – 5 ton HVAC, 14 – Sets of Lights, 50 – Portable Hospital Surge Beds, and 4 – Custom Trailers. Optional items include: complete oxygen system, negative pressure, a MERC (Mortuary Enhanced Remains Cooling) System, and medical supplies for 72 hours.
